الحقيبية التعليمية خنجر

تم و بحمد الله اليوم (6 من يوليو 2013) في مؤسسة القرية الهندسية  تدشين مشروع الحقيبة التعليميه خنجر و ذلك ضمن أحتفالات الشركة بالذكرى الثالثه للتأسيسها . يهدف مشروع الحقيبية التعليمية خنجر إلى تقديم الطلبة و الهواة إلى عالم برمجة المتحكمات الدقيقة و مساعدهم في أنجاز مشاريعهم في أقصر وقت ممكن. و كما قامت المؤسسة و ضمن فعاليات الاحتفال بالاعلان عن أصدار كتابين جديدين في المشاريع الالكترونية و سيكون الكتابيبن متوفرين باللغتين العربية و الانجليزية ليكون بذلك مجموع الكتب التي أصدرتها المؤسسة 4 كتب . كما أعلنت الشركة عن فتح حسابين جديدين في شبكات التوصل الاجتماعي تويتر و أنستجرام . و قامت الشركة أيضا بتكريم موضفيها المجيدين خلال العامين 2012 – 2013 م .

Distance Approximation System for Blind in a Match Box Size

Me and other partners worked on the project for engineering design course (at Sulatan Qaboos University). The Idea of the course is to give the students the soft skill that are required on the field. Part of the course is that, the Doctor will play the role of the client and the students will get the requirements from him. Our requirement is to design a device the will help blind people to approximate distances and help them to avoid obstacles. After a few meeting we’ve came up with a design.The design was a device 35 mm x 50 mm x 20 mm , weigh less than 300 grams. To a Proximate distance we’ve used  Ultrasonic range finder Maxbotix LV-EZ0. The user interface is very easy. A vibration motor was used for system notifications. And headphone for distance notification (different beeps for different ranges ). The user interface is also consists of two buttons for volume control. Another button was used for multi-functions. A long press will switch on and off the system while short press will toggle the operation mode from indoor to outdoor and vise versa. The device also has the capability to detect if the headphone is plugged in or not or if it is defected. In that case, the vibrator will be active for few second indicating an error and then the device will be turned off to save power.

The image above shows the circuit diagram of the whole system. The sub-circuit  “MULTIFUNCTIONAL” contain part of the circuit that will handle powering on and off the circuit and listing to the button as in put at the same time. The image below is the component inside  the sub-circuit.

[IEEE SQU Student Section ] is making a self driving car competition.  The idea is to make a robot car that travels around  closed trace. The closed trace will contain some obstacles. One of the obstacles is that the car should clime up an incline. An other obstacle is that the trace has a sharp turns , witch the car should pass successfully. Their will be a fixed cars on the close trace and competing car should bypass them and go pack to it is right side. The last obstacle is a speed breaker and the car should slow down as it gets closer to it. The evaluation points are , how fast the car will make a complete lap , the how successfully the car avoid the obstacles, the exterior design of the car and how innovative is the solution used. the winner will get a price of 1000 RO with is around (2597.47 US Dollars). My friends [Taha al Saadi , Ahmed Al Abusiadi  and I ] participated in the competition with hopefully the winning car.  as soon as we finish the car I will post all the details and what are technologies we’ve used on the car. But I’ll let you to have a sneak peek at the first prototype. And I hope at the end you will see some thing different.

PCB Design Workshop

[IEEE SQU Student section] is organizing PCB (Printed Circuit Board) design workshop. The workshop will start tomorrow (Sat  27th of April 2013). It targets FYP student and projects committee’s members on [IEEE SQU student section]. It will continue for two days. the goal of the workshop is give the students the introduction basic aspects of PCB design and in introduce them to one of the PCB design tool. The tool that will be used in this workshop is ARES professional one of the tool available on Proteus VSM. In this course also, a short introduction into Proteus simulation will be given. I’m hoping that the participants will gain a lot of useful information that will help them to professionally finish their projects.

Morse code Interpreter

We finally finished the embedded systems mini project, thank to Allah and  the team(Ali Al Lawati, Hamza Al Abri, and Sulaiman Al Habsi) work. The project is about design and implement a device that can hear a Morse code through a microphone and translate the to text. the text will be displayed on a 2×16 LCD screen, so the device can only translate 32 character [aA-zZ 0-9] at a time .We use an op-amp to amplify the sound signal, couple of capacitor  to filter out the some nasty frequencies and an ATMega8 as processing unit. The processing algorithm will be described later on, and it will be available as will as the source code of the project after presenting the project to the instructors.The device work perfectly with sound signal with frequency span of [1.2KHz – 1.5Khz],but it can be modified to work with and reasonable rang . A signal generated from this link is Ideal.

make two software one for computer and another one for Atmel’s Atmega8 AVR microcontroller .the first software is loading a number from web page (http://172.22.13.12/embedded/request.php?id=85258) . And send them to a micro controller using serial port. Configure your serial port as following (one stop bit, no parity, baud rate=19200 and 8 bit data size). Use URLrequest to make the request and use this half ready project to write the software for the micro controller .you’ll write your code in main.c .
